The Shotgun House, a hallmark of historic southern architecture notable for its narrow, elongated form, has inspired Stateline Builders to create a modern, portable accessory building that encapsulates the traditional style's simplicity and beauty.
The Shotgun is available in sizes ranging from 12x16 to 13x36, while remaining 100% portable. You also have the option to go modular, which allows for a floor up to 14x36, the same tall 7’-9” side wall with a steep 12 pitch A-frame or Hip-Roof. This modular style would give you a full-scale reproduction of a historic Shotgun House.
The Shotgun House, a staple of southern architecture, thrived on narrow city lots, measuring 12 to 14 feet across and up to 3 bays deep. Its straight-line design, allowing a theoretical shot to pass from front to back without obstruction, coined its name, offering an affordable living option.
These homes have gained appreciation for their simplistic architecture and historical value, with preservation efforts widespread in southern cities. The most notable Shotgun house is in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Presley's birthplace.
Stateline Builders aimed to craft a portable, aesthetic, and functional building beyond a simple shed, facing challenges such as achieving residential ceiling heights and portability while adhering to hauling restrictions.
Inspired by the charm and simplicity of historic Shotgun houses, which perfectly fit design limitations, Stateline Builders sought to break the mold of generic portable buildings, offering customers a customizable, stylish alternative.
The Shotgun by Stateline Builders is fully customizable, available in sizes from 12x16 to 13x36, with modular options for expanded sizes and distinctive roof styles, enabling a true-to-history recreation.
Remaining 100% portable and eligible for a Rent-To-Own plan, this modern adaptation offers the historical allure of the Shotgun House with the practicalities of contemporary construction, marrying tradition with innovation.

Deluxe Series distinguishes itself from the Quality & Classic Series through a vast range of exclusive options. Among the most sought-after features are the Hip Roof, porch, and 2nd-floor modular design - but this is just the start. Unique to the Deluxe Series, these options allow for the customization of a diverse array of structures, from tiny houses and accessory dwelling units to cabins, retail spaces, offices, she-sheds, and man-caves. While it's important to note that we don't provide fully finished interiors or utilities, the Deluxe Series offers ample choices to craft a project's shell. This versatility ensures your design not only meets your specific needs but also achieves an aesthetic appeal far removed from the basic shed appearance.
You’ll notice immediately there is no (outer) visible difference with the Classic Series Deluxe Trim and the Quality Series A-Frame or Quality Series Barn. The visible differences will be inside – most noticeably, the materials used to construct the building. The Quality Series meets or exceeds most local building code requirements and offers additional customization options.
A custom designed building may take up to 8 weeks. A basic storage shed built to order takes about 4 weeks. If you select a display model off the lot, we can usually get it to you within 7 days.
While you wait for your shed to be built, please take some time to plan out the placement of your shed and prepare the site foundation for proper installation. As a reminder, your site foundation must be setup before installation.
As a general rule, there should be at least 2-4 feet of extra space around your entire shed. To calculate how much space you need, add at least 2 feet to the length and width of the shed you want. Next, measure your potential site area to ensure there is enough clearance on each side of the shed.
Please note, check with your HOA rules and local codes for guidelines about building near your property lines. Most communities require that any building is setback 5-20 feet from the property line. This may impact where you can install your shed or what size will fit on your property site.
Before the delivery of your shed, please complete our pre-delivery checklist. Our pre-delivery checklist was created to help you have a smooth and easy installation experience.
